As we begin the Spring term, we are focusing on the habits that lead to academic and personal success. For our students, the most impactful habit they can build is consistent attendance.
Research consistently shows a direct link between high attendance and stronger outcomes in exams and future careers. In secondary school, learning is fast-paced, and missing even a single day can create gaps in knowledge that are difficult to fill.
The Reality of 90%
It is often thought that 90% attendance is a good result. However, 90% actually means missing half a day of school every week. Over a school year, that adds up to four weeks of missed learning. By supporting your child to achieve 100% attendance, you are giving them the best possible chance to feel confident and prepared in every subject.
Preparing for the Future
School is about more than just grades; it is about building the resilience and reliability that students will need in adult life. Showing up, even when things feel challenging, is a vital life skill. We want every student to feel a deep sense of belonging in our school community, knowing that their presence is valued and their contributions matter.
Support When You Need It
We understand that the teenage years can bring complex challenges. If your child is struggling with their wellbeing or finding it difficult to attend school, please do not wait for the situation to escalate. Contact your child’s form tutor or our pastoral team. We are committed to working with families to remove any barriers to attendance in a supportive and understanding way.
How You Can Support Your Child:
Keep track: Regularly check your child’s attendance data.
Open dialogue: Talk to your child about the importance of their lessons.
Rest and recharge: Help your child find a wind-down routine that works for them. Whether it’s reading a book, listening to a podcast, or spending quiet time away from notifications, prioritising a calm end to the day ensures they get the sleep they need to focus and succeed.
By working together, we can ensure that every student remains on track to achieve their ambitious goals and make the most of every opportunity this term.
