Our Curriculum Intent
The vision for Religious Education at Clayton Hall Academy is to help prepare and equip all pupils for life and citizenship in today’s diverse and pluralistic world. This includes providing opportunities for students to explore, engage, and reflect on their own and/or others’ religious beliefs, practices, spiritual insights, and world views.
This curriculum intent statement is aligned with the following principles:
- The importance of respecting diversity and promoting understanding between different cultures and faiths.
- The need to develop critical thinking skills so that pupils can evaluate religious claims and make informed decisions about their own beliefs.
- The importance of fostering a sense of empathy and compassion for others, regardless of their religious beliefs.
- The value of religious education in helping pupils to develop their own spiritual understanding and to live a meaningful and ethical life.
Gold Standard Teaching and Learning
(and subject specific to RE)
- Effective seating plans to be available, highlighting students who are PP, SEN and G&T
- Assessment maps, interweaved with PLC’s, to be integral in developing a students’ autonomy and understanding of their own progression and target setting
- Target Language to be used by the teacher and students (key focus for 2019 – 2020), so that the students are immersed in the world of the language (as they would be abroad), thus maximising the potential for retention and retrieval.
- Regular use of subject specific terminology (supporting Tier 3 Language Skills) to be used by the teacher and students, across both Key Stages, , so that the students retention skills are developed, supporting the higher grades at GCSE Level. This is a key focus for 2019 – 2020.
- A range of skills – Listening, speaking, reading and writing with as much use of conversational exercises as possible to increase the confidence of students in the target language which then opens up the learning for the grammatical side of things
- Appropriate differentiation
- Stretch and challenge through questioning, modelling (both student and teacher) and via the variety of tasks set
- Assessment for learning
- Effective use of summative data to inform short, medium and long-term planning
- DIRT
- Pair work, group work and independent work

What can I do to encourage my child to take further interest in RE?
Watch, read and talk about the news. Ask and discuss BIG questions. Consider religious responses to world events – why would they do what they do? Consider issues of equality, tolerance harmony.
