The SEN department at Clayton Hall Academy aims to provide high quality support to students with a range of special educational needs, offering equality of opportunity and access to a broad and balanced curriculum. By working collaboratively with students, teachers, parents/carers and the pastoral team, we endeavour to help students overcome their difficulties and fulfil their full academic and personal potential. The academy SEN team work in line with the requirements of the current SEN Code of Practice (2014) when carrying out the schools duties towards all students with Special Educational Needs, The SEN Code of Practice gives statutory guidance on duties, policies and procedures.
The SENCO and her team deploy a range of tools to assess individual need and to ensure that reasonable adjustments are put in place for students. The data of all students with a recognised Special Educational Need as defined by the Code of Practice is analysed and used to plan intervention for individual students and small groups. Progress is closely monitored and tracked, allowing intervention to be adaptable and responsive to individual needs. The team works closely with subject teachers, the pastoral team and outside agencies to plan intervention as part of our assess, plan, do, review response. Where appropriate, we may refer to the SEN & Inclusion Hub, to request the Enhanced Asses, Plan, Do, Review pathway is considered, for access to a wider range of external agency support.
We recognise that it is vital to support the social and emotional well-being of students alongside their academic progress. We encourage our students to reach their potential through a range of enrichment activities, including a breakfast club, lunch club and after school clubs to support emotional wellbeing. The SEN department offers a large SEN classroom; our base for individual and small group intervention sessions, and a SEN Hub; a dedicated sensory/regulation space for students to access throughout the school day.
Parents play a central role in supporting the work of the department and we welcome their involvement. Working together we can make the biggest difference to the young people in our care.
